the long-awaited return of the savage mki

The Savage was the first overdrive launched by Anasounds in 2015, back when the company was only starting out.
It took its inspiration from the famous US transparent overdrive which now sells for the price of a Custom Shop guitar,
and the Savage put Anasounds on the map and gave the brand a reputation of excellency that is still their moto to this day.
Since then, the fans have been asking for a proper reissue of the MkI, the big box original version of the Savage.
The occasion finally arose when the PALF Youtube channel hit 20 000 subscribers.
In order to thank its highly responsive community, the pedal media made a poll to know which limited edition stompbox they’d like to see.
In spite of a first run of reissues back in 2022, the Savage MkI arrived way ahead.
We didn’t want to make yet another identical reissue, and this is how the Sandman came to be.
It brings together the original Savage MkI circuit and the Ego Driver, two overdrives that get on very well with each other
and don’t take up too much space on a pedalboard compared with the huge sounds they offer.
With top-mounted jacks, pedalboard integration has never been easier.

As was the plan from the get-go, the Sandman is a limited edition. But it is not limited in terms of pedals, only in time:
every Sandman ordered from June the 2nd to the 16th will be manufactured, no need to be there first.
To make things even better, the price will be 299 euros during this two-week period,
which is extremely fair when you factor in the price of the first Savage MkI reissue plus the price of the Ego Driver.
Once those two weeks are over, the Sandman will be available in September from stores that ordered it
during those crucial two weeks, and it will be 369 euros and just as limited.
After that, when they’re gone they’re gone!
the fine art of stacking

The Sandman can be used as a double overdrive that allows you to choose between two very different sounds,
from the transparent character of the Savage MkI to the midboost of the Ego Driver.
But the real fun of that pedal lies in stacking, the fine art of combining two overdrives to get complex and fun sonic textures.
The Savage MkI is the fundation of your sound. It preserves the personality of your guitar and amp
and only adds harmonics and thickness (and volume too).
On the other hand, the Ego Driver is a wonderful boost, and its pronounced mid-hump
(that can also be controlled with our three-position switch) can push any crunchy amp to the other side.
When combined, the Ego Driver pushes the input of the Savage MkI and adds mid-presence without spoiling its rich sounds.
Once you get a taste of that sweet mixture, it’s gonna be really hard to do without it.

sand in the lows

The Sandman is not just for guitar players, and bassists are also very likely to enjoy the warmth of that overdrive
which won’t compromise their lows, which is often the case with pedals that have been designed for the guitar.
The secret behind those nice low frequencies even with a higher gain setting lies in the structure of the gain knob of the Savage MkI,
which acts both as a saturation control and as a dry / wet mixer. That parallel overdrive is perfect for a solid bass sound.
Moreover, the Hi / Lo switch on the Ego Driver allows you to choose a position that boosts the low-mids,
frequencies that will make a bass solo stick out or perfectly complement a heavy rhythm part.

The Sandman is worthy of the high-end reputation of the Anasounds brand. Each pedal is handmade in France,
worthy of the “boutique” name that can sometimes be thrown around a little too easily.
The Sandman is a gorgeous pedal, but it also features the best possible components,
including the infamous hard-to-find germanium diode that gives the Savage MkI its sound,
which also explains why the pedal is a limited edition.
We are as critical of the sound of our pedals as you are.
